The Golden Jubilee installation of the Surat Obstetric and Gynaecological Society was a landmark occasion, marking fifty remarkable years of one of the region’s most respected medical societies. Held online, the ceremony brought members together across distance at a time when meeting in person was not possible, and it remains a proud and memorable milestone for all of us associated with the society and with Paaranu Women’s Superspecialities.

Fifty years is a profound achievement for any organisation. The Surat Obstetric and Gynaecological Society has spent half a century advancing the science and practice of women’s healthcare in our region, nurturing generations of gynaecologists, organising academic programmes, and building a community bound by shared commitment to mothers and their babies. To reach a golden jubilee is to stand on the shoulders of every member and leader who came before, and the installation was as much a tribute to them as it was a celebration of the present.

An installation ceremony is a moment of both honour and responsibility. It is where a society formally welcomes its new office bearers and entrusts them with carrying its mission forward. Accepting a role in the service of the society is a privilege I hold in the highest regard, because it means being a custodian, for a time, of a legacy far larger than any individual. The trust placed in the new team by the membership is something we take very seriously.

Holding the ceremony online, during an extraordinary period for the whole world, carried its own quiet significance. It showed the resilience and adaptability of our medical community, our determination to keep our traditions alive and our work moving forward regardless of circumstances. In many ways, a golden jubilee observed in such times is an even stronger testament to the enduring spirit of the society.

As we celebrated the past, our thoughts naturally turned to the future. The goals ahead are clear, to keep raising the standard of obstetric and gynaecological care across the region, to support the continued education of our members, to embrace new knowledge and technology, and to serve the women and families of our community with ever greater skill and compassion. A jubilee is not only a look back with pride, but a renewal of purpose.

At Paaranu, we are honoured to be part of this vibrant fraternity. The strength of a medical community lies in its bonds, its shared learning and its collective commitment, and the Surat Obstetric and Gynaecological Society has embodied these values for five decades. Everything we strive for in our own practice is enriched by being part of this larger family.

I congratulate every member of the society on this proud occasion, and I thank all those whose dedication over fifty years has brought us to this golden milestone. May the Surat Obstetric and Gynaecological Society continue to flourish, to lead and to serve for many more decades to come. Here is to the next fifty years.
